The intention of folkdance is the survival, the collecting, the exchange and the passing on of survived, traditional folkdances. In the fore there is the joy and the fun on dancing and making music, of course. This you could gladly refer to our constitution.
We Geseker generally dance low-german and westphalian folkdances as well as the so-called Youth dances. Typical low-german dances originate from the whole north of Germany, from the border to the Netherlands to East Prussia and also enclose the westphalian area. We always attempt to adhere to the "antique" dancing descriptions to conserve the traditions of the dances. What is part of our repertoire you can refer to the eponymous column. We also gladly pass on dancing descriptions and musical scores.
Special dances of our folk dance group are the Geseker Heimattänze "Kegel", "Tampee" and "Eccosaise", which annually represent a highlight at the St. Sebastianer Schützenfest and which we consistently practise before the Schützenfest together with the Geseker population and especially with the Schützen.
What would the folk dance would be without music? If Children's- or Main group - preferably we dance to live music, also at our practise afternoons respectively practise evenings. Usually we are accompanied by multiple accordionists. Parts of our main cast additionally are a guitar and a transverse flute. To special opportunities ( e.g. our last journey) we are also assisted by flutes, a clarinet, a violin or a further guitar. Musicians are rare and because of this we are glad about everyone who gives us a shout and has joy playing instruments and folk dancing.
